Combining ripe bananas, rich chocolate, crunchy nuts, tangy cream cheese, and fluffy whipped cream in a graham cracker or pastry crust, this pie offers a perfectly balanced and visually stunning treat ideal for any occasion. Easy to prepare and adaptable to dietary needs, it brings nostalgia and delight in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 graham cracker or traditional pastry pie crust (pre-made or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (if making crust from scratch)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (if making crust from scratch)

Fruit

  • 34 ripe but firm bananas
  • Optional: sliced strawberries or pineapple chunks for variation

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whipped cream (freshly whipped preferred)

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chocolate chunks
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans), toasted if desired
  • Maraschino cherries for garnish
  • Additional whipped cream for garnish
  • Optional: chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crust: Bake or pre-purchase a graham cracker or pastry crust. For homemade crust, mix crushed graham crackers with melted butter and sugar, press firmly into a pie dish, and chill until firm.
  2. Slice the Bananas: Peel and slice the bananas evenly to layer at the bottom of the pie, providing a fresh fruity foundation.
  3. Make the Creamy Filling: In a bowl, beat softened cream cheese with sweetened condensed milk until smooth and fluffy. Gently fold in the whipped cream to create a light, creamy filling.
  4. Assemble the Layers: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the banana slices in the crust. Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped nuts evenly on top.
  5. Chill to Set: Refrigerate the pie for at least 4 hours so the filling can firm up and flavors can meld beautifully.
  6. Garnish Before Serving: Add dollops of whipped cream, maraschino cherries, and sprinkle extra nuts or chocolate shavings on top for a classic banana split presentation.

Notes

  • Choose firm bananas to avoid soggy pie and keep slices intact.
  • Chill the pie thoroughly to help it set and slice cleanly.
  • Use freshly whipped cream instead of store-bought for better texture and flavor.
  • Lightly toast nuts before chopping for enhanced flavor.
  • Use high-quality chocolate chips or chunks for the best richness.
