This buttery cheesy basa recipe features tender basa fillets cooked in a rich garlic butter sauce, topped with a melty blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheese, and finished with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and herbs. Ready in under 30 minutes, it’s a simple, family-friendly seafood dish with a creamy, savory flavor that pairs easily with various sides and is perfect for a quick indulgent meal.

Ingredients

Fish

  • Basa Fillets: 4 fresh or thawed fillets (about 6 oz each)

Butter Sauce

  • Unsalted Butter: 4 tablespoons
  • Garlic: 3 cloves, freshly minced
  • Lemon Juice: 1 tablespoon, fresh

Cheese

  • Mozzarella Cheese: 1/2 cup shredded
  • Cheddar Cheese: 1/2 cup shredded

Seasonings and Garnish

  • Salt: to taste
  • Black Pepper: to taste
  • Fresh Parsley or Chives: 2 tablespoons, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Basa Fillets: Pat the basa fillets dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture, ensuring they cook evenly and absorb the buttery cheesy sauce better.
  2. Make the Garlic Butter: Melt the unsalted butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned, creating the flavor base for the dish.
  3. Cook the Basa: Place the basa fillets in the skillet with the garlic butter. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the fish turns opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Add Cheese and Lemon: Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese over each fillet. Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top. Cover the skillet with a lid just enough to let the cheese melt beautifully without overcooking the fish.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Once the cheese is melted and bubbly, sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley or chives over the fillets. Serve immediately to enjoy the full richness and flavor of the buttery cheesy basa.

Notes

  • Use fresh basa fillets for the best tender texture and delicate flavor.
  • Cook the fish in batches if the skillet is crowded to maintain even cooking and crisp edges.
  • Cover the pan briefly when adding cheese to ensure it melts without drying out the fish.
  • Adjust the amount of butter depending on how rich you want the sauce.
  • Use a non-stick skillet to avoid sticking and help achieve a perfect golden crust.
