Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Potatoes

  • 1.5 to 2 pounds sirloin or ribeye steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1.5 pounds baby potatoes, halved or quartered if larger than golf ball size

Seasonings and Flavorings

  • 34 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth (use gluten-free if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Trim and cut steak into bite-sized pieces for even cooking. Wash baby potatoes and halve or quarter any that are larger to ensure uniform cooking. Mince garlic and measure out all spices for easy use.
  2. Layer the Potatoes and Steak: Place the baby potatoes in an even layer at the bottom of the crockpot. Add steak bites on top, then sprinkle minced garlic and seasonings evenly over everything. Pour beef broth over the layers and add dollops of butter across the top.
  3. Set and Slow Cook: Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours. This slow and low method tenderizes the steak and softens the potatoes without drying them out.
  4. Final Touches: When cooking is complete, gently stir the mixture to combine the savory juices with melted butter and herbs. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper as needed. Serve hot directly from the crockpot.

Notes

  • Use even-sized pieces of steak and potatoes for consistent cooking.
  • Don’t overcrowd the crockpot; allow space for heat circulation.
  • Choose tender cuts like sirloin or ribeye for the best texture and affordability.
  • Use just enough broth to keep the dish moist without making it watery.
  • Allow the dish to rest for 10 minutes after cooking to redistribute flavors.
