Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 1 large fresh cucumber (firm, peeled or unpeeled based on texture preference)
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (full-fat recommended for creaminess)
  • 12 cloves garlic, freshly minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or vinegar
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Herbs

  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, mint, or parsley (or a combination), chopped

Variation Ingredients (Optional)

  • Pinch of cayenne pepper or 1 teaspoon finely chopped jalapeño (for spicy kick)
  • Greek style: 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese and 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Dairy-free version: substitute Greek yogurt with 1 cup coconut yogurt or cashew cream
  • Herb garden mix: 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, basil, and chives combined
  • Nutty twist: 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds or pine nuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cucumbers: Wash and peel the cucumber if you prefer a smoother dip texture. Finely grate or chop the cucumber, then place it in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze firmly to remove as much excess moisture as possible to prevent a watery dip.
  2. Mix the Base: In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt with freshly squeezed lemon juice or vinegar, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well blended, forming a creamy base for your dip.
  3. Add the Cucumber and Herbs: Gently fold the grated cucumber into the yogurt mixture. Stir in your choice of fresh herbs, adjusting the quantity to your taste to keep the dip fragrant and vibrant.
  4. Taste and Adjust Seasoning: Sample your dip and add more lemon juice, salt, or pepper as desired to brighten or balance the flavors. For a spicy variation, mix in cayenne pepper or finely chopped chili at this stage.
  5. Chill Before Serving: Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and enhance the texture. Serve cold, garnished as desired.

Notes

  • Drain excess water from grated cucumber thoroughly to avoid a soggy dip and maintain a thick, creamy texture.
  • Full-fat Greek yogurt enhances creaminess and flavor; low-fat options will produce a lighter dip.
  • Use cold ingredients to keep the dip refreshing and extend its shelf life.
  • Fresh herbs deliver a more fragrant, assertive flavor than dried herbs.
  • The dip tastes even better after resting in the fridge for a few hours.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; stir before serving to recombine.
  • Not recommended for freezing due to potential separation and watery texture upon thawing.
  • No reheating needed—enjoy chilled directly from the fridge.
