Ingredients

Scale

Meats

  • 1 lb ground hamburger (80/20 lean suggested)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot based on preference)
  • 1 cup pepperoni slices

Cheese & Dairy

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Sauces & Condiments

  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup pizza sauce

Crust & Dough

  • 1 unbaked deep-dish pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat Filling: Cook ground hamburger and Italian sausage together in a large skillet over medium heat. Break apart the meat until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat, then stir in garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Set aside the cooked meat mixture.
  2. Assemble the Pie Crust: Roll out the pie crust into a deep-dish pan, ensuring it evenly covers the bottom and sides. Pre-bake the crust in a 375°F oven for 7 to 8 minutes to prevent sogginess.
  3. Layer the Ingredients: Spread a thin, even layer of pizza sauce over the par-baked crust. Add half of the cooked meat mixture, then a generous layer of shredded mozzarella cheese, followed by pepperoni slices. If there is additional room, repeat the layers and finish with a topping of mozzarella cheese.
  4. Bake the Pie: Place the assembled pie in the oven and bake at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  5. Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool for about 10 minutes after baking. This rest time helps the filling to set, making it easier to slice and serve.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for even cooking and better flavor melding.
  • Do not overload the filling to prevent a soggy crust and ensure the perfect texture.
  • Drain excess fat from cooked meats to avoid excess grease in the pie.
  • Pre-bake the crust to avoid sogginess from the wet filling.
  • Allow the pie to rest after baking to redistribute juices and keep slices neat.
