Ingredients

Scale

Turkey Patties

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup diced onion (red or white)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional spices: 1/2 tsp ground cumin or chili powder

Guacamole

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Additional

  • Whole wheat buns (optional)
  • Optional toppings: sliced tomatoes, crisp lettuce, sliced red onion, pickles, crumbled feta or cotija cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Guacamole: Start by mashing the ripe avocados in a bowl. Mix in finely chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, and fresh lime juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside to let the flavors meld while you prepare the patties.
  2. Mix the Turkey Patty Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the ground turkey with minced garlic, diced onion, salt, pepper, and any optional spices you prefer. Gently mix until just combined to avoid tough burgers.
  3. Form the Patties: Divide the turkey mixture into evenly sized portions and shape them into patties about ½ inch thick to ensure even cooking. Adjust size if making sliders.
  4. Cook the Turkey Burgers: Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties approximately 5-6 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Avoid pressing down on the patties to keep them juicy.
  5. Assemble Your Guacamole Turkey Burgers: Place each cooked patty on a toasted whole wheat bun or lettuce wrap, then generously spoon the creamy guacamole over the top. Add desired additional toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Choose fresh avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure for the creamiest guacamole.
  • Do not overwork the ground turkey when mixing to keep patties tender and juicy.
  • Preheat your cooking surface thoroughly to develop a good crust without drying out the meat.
  • Let the cooked patties rest a few minutes before serving to lock in juices.
  • Use a food thermometer to ensure the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for safe eating.
