Ingredients

Scale

Protein

  • 1 lb pork shoulder or tenderloin, cut into bite-sized pieces

Sauce

  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp chili flakes

Base

  • 2 cups cooked jasmine or basmati rice

Other

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pork: Cut the pork into bite-sized pieces to ensure quick and even cooking. Pat the pieces dry with paper towels to help achieve a good sear, then season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the Pork: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork pieces and cook for 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and nearly cooked through. Remove the pork from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: Reduce heat to medium in the same skillet. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in honey and soy sauce, then simmer gently for 2 minutes to blend the flavors and slightly thicken the sauce.
  4. Combine Pork and Sauce: Return the cooked pork to the skillet and toss to coat every piece in the honey garlic sauce. Cook together for an additional 2-3 minutes so the pork fully absorbs the sauce.
  5. Prepare the Rice: While cooking the pork, prepare jasmine or basmati rice according to package instructions. Fluff with a fork once cooked and keep warm.
  6. Assemble the Bowl: Scoop a generous portion of rice into each bowl. Top with the honey garlic pork. Garnish with chopped green onions and optional chili flakes for added flavor and color.

Notes

  • Dry your pork well before cooking to ensure it browns properly.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best sauce flavor instead of pre-minced garlic.
  • Make sure your pan is hot to get a good sear and lock in juices.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more honey if desired before combining pork and sauce.
  • Allow the cooked pork to rest briefly off heat to redistribute juices and enhance tenderness.
