Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, room temperature

Filling

  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk (adjust for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add melted butter and egg, mix well. Gradually add flour, kneading until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the risen dough and turn onto a floured surface. Roll it into a 12×16 inch rectangle to create the base for the filling.
  3. Spread Nutella and Cinnamon: Warm Nutella slightly for easier spreading. Generously spread Nutella over the dough, leaving a small border along edges. Sprinkle cinnamon evenly over the Nutella layer.
  4. Roll and Slice: Starting from the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice into 12 equal pieces to form individual rolls.
  5. Second Rise: Place rolls in a greased baking dish with small gaps in between. Cover and let them rise 30-45 minutes until puffed.
  6. Bake Until Golden: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and fully cooked, with Nutella bubbling slightly.
  7. Add Icing Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Drizzle generously over warm rolls, allowing the glaze to melt into the crevices.

Notes

  • Use warm milk (not hot) to properly activate yeast without killing it.
  • Knead dough for 8-10 minutes for optimal softness and fluffiness.
  • Warm Nutella before spreading to make it easier to apply evenly.
  • Leave a small border around the edges to prevent Nutella from oozing out during baking.
  • Use room temperature eggs and butter for better dough mixing and rise.
  • You can substitute with almond butter or other spreads as desired.
  • For vegan adaptation, use plant-based milk, vegan butter, and flax egg.
  • Freeze unbaked rolls after slicing to bake later; thaw overnight in refrigerator before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers wrapped in foil in the oven or with a damp paper towel in the microwave to retain moisture.
