Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Sausage

  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 8 ounces smoked sausage, sliced into bite-sized pieces

Vegetables

  • 1 cup bell peppers, chopped (any color)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes

Seasonings and Others

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Peel and devein the shrimp if not already done. Slice the sausage into bite-sized pieces. Finely chop the bell peppers and onions, and mince the garlic to have everything ready for cooking.
  2. Cook Sausage: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage slices and cook until browned and slightly crispy, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove sausage from the skillet and set aside, keeping the flavorful oil in the pan.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the chopped onions and bell peppers. Cook until softened and caramelized, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add Spices and Tomatoes: Sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes and season with salt and black pepper. Stir in the diced tomatoes and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly and flavors meld together.
  5. Cook the Shrimp: Add the raw shrimp and cooked sausage back into the skillet. Cook for approximately 3 to 4 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the skillet and toss everything to combine evenly.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the dish. Serve immediately with your choice of sides such as rice, pasta, or bread.

Notes

  • Use fresh or properly thawed shrimp for the best texture.
  • Do not overcook shrimp; remove from heat as soon as they turn pink to keep them juicy.
  • Adjust crushed red pepper flakes to balance the heat according to your preference.
  • Choose a high-quality smoked sausage like Andouille or kielbasa for bold flavor.
  • Caramelize onions and bell peppers well to enhance the dish’s sweetness and depth.
