Garlic Butter Steak and Potato Skillet

A hearty and flavorful one-pan Garlic Butter Steak and Potato Skillet featuring tender steak, crispy baby potatoes, and rich garlic butter, perfect for quick weeknight dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak

  • 1 lb tender steak (ribeye or sirloin), seasoned with salt and pepper

Potatoes

  • 1 lb baby potatoes, washed and halved

Garlic Butter

  • 34 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • 3 tbsp butter

Herbs & Oil

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or thyme, chopped

Seasonings

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Wash and halve the baby potatoes, peel and mince the garlic cloves, and season your steak generously with salt and pepper. Prepare everything before heating the pan to ensure a smooth cooking process.
  2. Cook the Potatoes: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the potatoes cut side down and cook until golden and crisp, about 10-12 minutes, flipping occasionally for even browning.
  3. Sear the Steak: Push the potatoes to the edge of the pan and increase heat to medium-high. Place the steak in the center and sear for 3-4 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness.
  4. Add Garlic Butter and Herbs: Reduce heat to medium. Add butter and minced garlic to the skillet, spoon the melted garlic butter over the steak and potatoes, then sprinkle fresh herbs on top for extra aroma and flavor.
  5. Final Touch and Serve: Let everything cook together for another 2-3 minutes to meld flavors. Remove from heat, let the steak rest briefly, then slice and serve alongside the crispy potatoes.

Notes

  • Use room temperature steak by letting it sit out 20-30 minutes before cooking for even cooking.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook potatoes and steak in batches if necessary to ensure a perfect sear.
  • Add garlic last with the butter to prevent burning.
  • Allow the steak to rest a few minutes after cooking to lock in juices.
  • Use fresh herbs to brighten the dish and complement the garlic butter.
